On the north slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains, County of Los Angeles Department of Recreation, San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Angeles National Forest administers Devil’s Punchbowl area. The Devil's Punchbowl is a point where the Garlock and San Andreas faults collide, creating upwards jutting vertical walls of sandstone as high as 300 feet over a period of 60 million years. The Devils Chair Trail is a 9.1 mile from the county parking area and is shared by the Pacific Crest Trail that leads to a viewpoint offering a spectacular viewpoint of the southwestern Mojave Desert.
