This concrete arch dam on the Colorado River, just north of Page, has been the center of controversy since its planned construction. It was completed in 1966 but was started in 1956, ten years in construction. I remember driving across the bridge and watching the construction. The waters behind the dam flooded Glen Canyon, a fact never to be forgotten by those who love the Canyon and the River. The huge lake behind the dam, Lake Powell, named for John Wesley Powell, the river's explorer, is featured in the first of the Planet of the Apes movies.
