Gunlock Reservoir is low on this day in early spring of 2014. The boat ramp was closed last fall and now the hikers and campers have the state park to themselves. From the looks of the snow pack in the nearby mountains, my guess is that no water will flow over the spillway to the south adjacent the dam.
Gunlock State Park is a little gem of a park situated around the Gunlock reservoir. There are red rock formations for the kids to scramble over, small pink dunes to the south, stretches of petrified dunes south and west and water to play in right near the primitive camp sites. Above, dark volcanic layers punctuate the softer reds of the hills.
