Inside the welcoming reception area of Hotel Djúpavík in the West Fjords (Vestfirðir) region in Iceland. This charming hotel, located on the beautifully rugged eastern coast of the Strandir peninsula, is a welcome sight for weary travellers, and provides an excellent base for exploring the isolated wilderness of the area. Photographers and fans of the great outdoors love this place.
The owners opened the hotel in 1985, and have slowly been restoring buildings and securing the future of this tiny settlement, including the concrete herring factory which closed over half a century ago.
Special thanks to Eva Sigurbjörnsdóttir for the welcome and assistance.
