Pompe de la place de l'Eglise de Saint-Macaire - France

Pompe  -  Début du XXe siècle  -  Fonte (H. : 180 cm)  -  Place de l'église

Jusqu'au XVIIIe siècle, la ville ne possède qu'une fontaine publique, probablement localisée au Mercadiou. Les idées du siècle des Lumières propagées par la Révolution développent sur le territoire les puits publics et en 1835, le conseil municipal dote en pompe les 5 points de puisage de la commune. Le réseau public d'adduction d'eau potable ne commence à être mis en œuvre qu'en 1939. La pompe de la plage de l'Eglise est établie tardivement puisque le cimetière occupait le flanc nord de l'édifice jusqu'au début du XIXe siècle.
