San Sebastian Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro

San Sebastian Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro is one of the major Catholic shrines in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

atypical building constructed from 1964 to 1976, it is representative of the current of the brutalist architecture moderniste1. His avant-garde lines are reminiscent of the pre-Columbian pyramids, symbol of union between old and new world.

The San Sebastian Cathedral (also known as Metropolitan Cathedral) is the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. It replaces the old "Sé" (Cathedral) inherited from the colonial period, returned parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
