The Church of the former Monastery of Jesus or Convent of Jesus de Setúbal is a Gothic style church located in Setúbal, considered to be one of the first examples of the Manueline style. It was designed by the architect Diogo Boitaca in 1494, by vote of Justa Rodrigues Pereira, mistress of D. Manuel I.

The interior has arches, windows and twisted columns made of breccia da Arrábida, which support the vaults. The ceiling features spiral ribs. The inclusion of the Convento de Jesus in the initial list of European Heritage Marks corresponds to the international recognition of the most important national urban monument in Setúbal and one of the most relevant examples of Manueline architecture south of the Tagus River. Manueline vault of the choir The aim of these Marches, promoted within the scope of the Council of Europe and the European Union, is “to give visibility to the places that celebrate and symbolize integration, ideals and the history of Europe”. It should be remembered that Setúbal was the stage for the ratification of the Treaty of Tordesilhas, on September 5, 1494, by King D. João II (in whose reign the convent was founded). This fact, moreover, was evoked in 1994, during the commemorations of the fifth centenary of the treaty, which brought the Spanish monarch Juan Carlos to the city.
