Timberline Lodge is likely one of every Oregonians fondest landmarks. The Lodge sits on the directly south side of the mountain. President Roosevelt had the timber structure lodge built by hundreds of skilled artisans and craftsmen during the depression as a WPA and CCC project. It was dedicated in September of 1937. This big lodge has had its ups and downs over the decades but is as fine and popular today as it ever was. Directly behind the lodge the first chairlift in Oregon was built in 1939. It took skiers from the 6,000 ft. altitude of the lodge up to 7,000ft. Above that now is another lift that runs all summer on Palmer glacier. Directly south on the horizon you will see Mount Jefferson and behind that the Three Sisters Mountains, all in the Cascade mountain range.
