Castanheiro do Norte is a village in the municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães, parish seat located 9.6 km from the county seat, its territory is facing the Valleys of the Douro River and the River Tua, enjoying excellent panoramic views over the terraces and the vineyards. This parish union includes the villages Foz-Tua, Fiolhal, Ribalonga, Tralhariz and several Quintas.
In the village of Castanheiro, the alleys and corners of a village marked by the typical houses built in granite masonry stand out. The parish church, evoking S. Brás, is a baroque building where a famous religious and profane pilgrimage takes place on the 3rd of February.
Going up the street where the parish church is located, we come across the Sanctuary of Senhor da Boa Morte. From this place, you can see the village of Tralhariz to the west, where the Casa de Tralhariz stands out from among its traditional dwellings that meander along the elevation of Monte das Chãs, a 19th century emblazoned manor.
Inside the perimeter of Monte das Chãs stands the chapel of Bom Jesus, which shows a very particular characteristic. The temple has a perfectly circular shape where a door with a rectangular profile is torn, oriented to the west and surmounted by a small steeple. The interior of this temple reveals a great pictorial richness, with granite walls covered with plaster painted with scenes from the apostolate.
