This national monument preserves and protects the remains of several Native American communities which farmed the area over 800 years ago. An eruption at nearby Sunset Crater was a boon to the farmers, with the ash falls replenishing the soil. The largest of the villages in the area was the 100 room Wupatki Pueblo, which was built around and atop a rock outcrop. The communities were also heavily involved with trade and artifacts from both the Pacific and Gulf coasts have been found here. This panorama was taken at sunset.
