In this chapel you can find the only image of the ancient altars of the Monastery of Batalha, which has remained in its place since its origin. It presents the suffering of the Virgin Mary at the death of Her Son. The image of Our Lady came to join that of the dead Christ, who traditionally kept himself in the sacristy, from where he left in a procession during Holy Week. It was installed here, until 1901, the sarcophagus of D. João II, transferred on this date to the Chapel of the Founder.
