Snow houses were places to keep iced snow during the full year prepared to be carried to the towns for use it on hospitals, ice-cream or drink factories, etc. They was used until 1940/50 in Mallorca. This is one of the bigger snow houses in the island, surrounded by this giant ivy you can see on the image.
You can locate it ascending from the road Sóller-Lluc, next to the first long tunnel that leaves apart Sóller's valley to come inside Serra de'n Torrella. This ascending trekking path goes through the so called Coma de n'Arbona until a high peak on the Puig Major mountain range that is called Penyal des Migdia, 1350 meters high, crossing at some places a military zone.
