Gletsch is situated in central Switzerland in the midst of a wild mountain landscape, formed by the power of water, whether the ice, Rhone Glacier, or rainwater and snow that formed the countryside. At the end of the 19th century, Gletsch became an important Alpine connection, connecting to Brig, Andermatt and Meiringen. The Glacier Express made the Gletsch station one of the most famous in the world between 1930 and 1981. Since the opening of the Furka tunnel, the friends of the railway have steadfastly worked hard to ensure that Furka's mountain route is not dismantled.
