Granite Park Canyon
Arizona
Standing on a rim above the south side of Granite Park Canyon we look down on the red flood waters of the normally dry stream bed. A lengthy over night rain storm supplied most of the side canyons with a fresh supply of water so that the erosion of the Grand Canyon could continue. Bit by bit, sand grain by sand grain, the rocks and soil break down and are carried into the side streams which themselves flow into the Grand Canyon. The water in the side canyons stops flowing as quickly as it starts. Just an hour before this panorama was taken, Granite Park Canyon was flowing at least a foot deeper than shown here. The ground surface very near the nadir of this panorama shows good views of Cryptogamic soil. GCPano.org
