The Konkordia hut is situated on a rock above the Aletsch Glacier. When it was build in 1877 it was sat only 50m above the glacier. Since, the glacier has receded 1m each year. As of 2015 the hut is 150m above the glacier. Today, a long flight of stairs have to be climbed to reach the hut. Every few years the stairs need to be extended. The 467 steps are tiring but comfortable compared to the ladders that were at their place up until the 70s.
