龜山，海拔72公尺，是座方山，其型如龜故稱。山的東南側設有木棧道方便遊客上山賞景，山頂上可以向東展望恒春縱谷、北望保力及車城兩溪的出海口，而西側的山腳下就是國立海洋物博物館。龜山自古以來即是一個重要的軍事制高點，因此山上可見到多處軍事硐堡與坑道；而牡丹社事件中的率日本軍攻台的西鄉從道及由射寮登陸並駐紮於龜山下。
