Seaside is Oregon's premier beach town, a bit tacky in places and often crowded, but fun. The main drag runs straight out to the beach and ends in a circle with a statue of Lewis and Clark in the middle. The sculpture is entitled "End of the Trail" because it was near here that the Corps of Discovery, sent out by President Thomas Jefferson to explore across the continent, first saw the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, Seaside was where they made a camp to boil seawater and produce salt, necessary to preserve meat for the journey home.
