Old Japanese Farmer's House
Tama

This traditional Japanese house with a thatched roof was built about 10 yeas ago with just the same technique used to build the houses in the Edo period about 250 years ago.  Relatively rich farmers had lived in such houses.  In the house, there are kitchen, main room with a fireplace in the middle of the floor, guest room, and a horse's room.  In the second floor, there is an employee's room. This area recently was reformed to reproduce the old "Satoyama" which means the border area between mountains and rice fields. On the day I visited, an event, "Slow life lecture", was open.

Mehr über Tama

Tama area is the name of the western part of Tokyo Metropolis.  It consists of 26 cities, 3 towns and a village.  A lot of people (about 4 milion) live in a eastern half part of the area.  However, there are many mountains in the western part of Tama area, and there are very little flat land.  Many hiking spots are in the western area, so you can enjoy walking on the trail, camping, and so on.  If you see the beautiful mountain scene, you may not believe this is also in Tokyo.
