Santo Aleixo da Restauração Garden (Portugal)
Europe
Garden in Santo Aleixo da Restauração (Moura, Portugal) Picture in HDR. Village in the municipality of Moura, District of Beja (Alentejo) with parish seat of 179.53 km ² and 842 inhabitants (census 2001). Density: 4.7 inhabitants / km ². It is believed that St. Aleixo was inhabited 3 to 4 thousand years BC, proof is in the Antas or tanchées stones and Dolmens in the region. Another fact that leads us to believe in the existence of other people are the Paleolithic and Neolithic relics that have been found. In 1252 St. Aleixo was already there. Was then called Camp Bucks and was inhabited by farmers and Noudar Moura. St. Aleixo is considered the Restoration Village Restoration War hero of Portugal due to the great events of the War of Acclamation, particularly in the battles of 6 October 1641, 12 August 1644 and May 31, 1704, in which the Castilians attacked the village and its inhabitants defended themselves heroically in the churchyard. Are visible two guns used in these wars. Before the war the village would have a wall dropped into contention. By Decree No. 41093, published in the Government Gazette No. 102 - Series I - 3 May 1957, the parish of St. Aleixo, the municipality of Moura, was renamed to St. Aleixo of the Restoration. The village is located on Highway Moura - Barrancos Safara soon after.

Mehr über Europe

Europe is generally agreed to be the birthplace of western culture, including such legendary innovations as the democratic nation-state, football and tomato sauce. The word Europe comes from the Greek goddess Europa, who was kidnapped by Zeus and plunked down on the island of Crete. Europa gradually changed from referring to mainland Greece until it extended finally to include Norway and Russia.Don't be confused that Europe is called a continent without looking like an island, the way the other continents do. It's okay. The Ural mountains have steadily been there to divide Europe from Asia for the last 250 million years. Russia technically inhabits "Eurasia".Europe is presently uniting into one political and economic zone with a common currency called the Euro. The European Union originated in 1993 and is now composed of 27 member states. Its headquarters is in Brussels, Belgium.Do not confuse the EU with the Council of Europe, which has 47 member states and dates to 1949. These two bodies share the same flag, national anthem, and mission of integrating Europe. The headquarters of the Council are located in Strasbourg, France, and it is most famous for its European Court of Human Rights. In spite of these two bodies, there is still no single Constitution or set of laws applying to all the countries of Europe. Debate rages over the role of the EU in regards to national sovereignty. As of January 2009, the Lisbon Treaty is the closest thing to a European Constitution, yet it has not been approved by all the EU states. Text by Steve Smith.
