A view inside the historic and elegant cathedral (Duomo) on Ortygia Island in Syracuse, the beautifully-preserved UNESCO World Heritage City on the Ionian coast of Sicily.
The cathedral is one of the oldest places of worship in the ancient world; the 5th century BC Temple of Athena was built by the Greeks (Doric columns from this era are incorporated into the fabric of the existing building) and subsequently the site has been a centre for both Christian and Muslim worship at different times depending on who the dominant power on the island was.
This was shot in early morning, as the light illuminated the apse, highlighting the beauty of the space.
