Te Matau a Pohe- Whangarei's new Bridge.
The concept of the bridge spanning the Hatea River between Okara Drive and Riverside Drive has come to completion with this opening day.
The start of the day was marked by a blessing by local Kaumatua followed by a symbolic walk from Pohe Island. The Bascule, raised before, was lowered as the party approached, then across the bridge they came towards Okara.
In the pre-dawn darknes this was both eerie and thought-provoking.

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
