Villa Arnaga, Cambo-les-Bains (France)
Northern Spain
Edmond Rostand, the author of Cyrano de Bergerac, planted "Villa Arnaga", the house of his dreams, in lush greenery in Cambo-les-Bains (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) - France. Before being a museum, Arnaga was a dream, that of a great author of the last century, Edmond Rostand. This residence, he ardently desired, imagined and designed it down to the smallest detail. The Neo-Basque style house appears traditional on the outside, but the interior is treated like a somptuous theater set. Built in just 3 years (1903-1906) the villa has all the modern comforts of the Belle-Epoque: hot water, electricity, heating, telephone... The playwright lives here with his family, the poet Rosemonde Gérard and her children Maurice and Jean Rostand. On his death in 1918, the villa was sold in 1922. It has been owned by the municipality of Cambo-les-Bains since 1962. Around the house Edmond Rostand has also created 15Ha of garden composed of ponds, water mirrors and a pergola.
