Baojhugou is the most centralized area of Hakka residence.Yimin Temple in the area is an important religious center for the Hakka people dedicated to worshiping more than 200 of Hakka folk heroes.It was built in Kaohsiung by the followers from Yimin Temple in Hsinchu through rituals of “dividing incense” (for temple branching) in 1946. The temple was firstly built next to the train station and relocated to the current site in 1973 as agreed by all followers.Yimin festival is held annually on July 20th of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, and there is the “Divine-Pig Competition” taking place in front of the temple.“Divine pigs” of a minimum weight of 1000 jins (catty) are lined up and the biggest big will be chosen as the winner.The contest has become one of the greatest events of the Hakka festivals.
