Church of Sao Francisco, Chapel of Martyrs of Marocco, Porto

Chapel of the Martyrs of Morocco. On the Epistle side, three altarpieces, first and third, from the chancel, respectively that of the Annunciation of Our Lady (1750), formerly known as the Incarnation and that of the Holy Martyrs of Morocco (ca. 1750), both by Manuel Pereira da Costa Noronha. This remarkable carver, whose activity will be developed between the 40s and 50s, was the son of the illustrious Luís Pereira da Costa, one of the greatest names of the first third of the 18th century who also left his mark in San Francisco, since he performed in 1724 the carving of the Chapel of Santo António, meanwhile disappeared and replaced by the current one.
