Hambone Caves south - entrance

Peering into a gaping hole of a lava tube near Hambone, California.  This lava tube is one of many in the region w/ only this vertical 30-40' deep entrance.  The surface area consists of dry junipers, incense cedars, & ponderosa pines.  However down at the bottom one can see a small cluster of unique coast ferns that are adapting well to the micro-climate.  Coast ferns are also found at other caves in nearby Lava Beds National Monument.
