El Castillo de Alcudia de Veo

One of the most attractive and important castles in the Sierra Espadan. Its relatively good state of conservation allows one to see the placement of its principal defensive elements, towers and walls and follows its walled area completely. Within the walls we can admire the magnitude of its construction and its elegant appearance. Despite this there is little documentation about its history. Possibly it was conquered by Jaime I's troops around 1238. By comparing it with other castles in the area and its strategic importance to the Moorish population undoubtedly it can be linked to all the rebellions which took place including the bloodiest in the 16th Century against forced baptism and 17th Century against the expulsion decree. Altitude approx 600m, and 100m above the village.
