Gili Trawangan at sunset, looking west over Bali. As with other countries around the world, the high tide mark is strewn with plastic, glass and other types of garbage. In the sea, marine animals can become tangled in the debris. Eventually the plastics are broken down into smaller particles, but never disappears. The garbage starts its life on land and then thrown into mismanaged dumps and is washed into the sea.
