Horea’s Durmast
This is an oak (durmast) about 400 years old, with a circumference of 9 meters. To be protected against seasoning and decaying, in 1924 it was binded with steel circles and internally cement-bounded. To allow a continuously growth, the tree was cut around 9 meters height, where a new auxiliary bough grown, bough which still exist. Under this tree Horia, a national hero at that time induced Moţi people into the battle. Under Horea’s Durmast situated in village’s cemetery, was buried Avram Iancu, also a national hero. Land of heroes, like Horea, Closca and Crisan, or Avram Iancu, king of the Moţi people, this small region is today a pilgrimage place for every true Romanian. Panorama taken in September 2007.
