The central square of city Hvar, officaly named St. Stephen square (Trg sv. Stjepana) and commonly refered as 'Pjaca' ( from Italian word 'piazza' meaning square), was originally a cove that stretched deep into the shore, dividing two hills that the city lies upon. Throughout the centuries, the cove was covered bit by bit, until the square was formed into its present shape by the late 15th century.
