The picturesque moated Kirby Muxloe Castle was a fortified manor house built for Lord William Hastings in the early 1480s. It is one of the earliest brickwork castles in England. Today only the gatehouse and West Tower remain largely intact.
Unfortunately Lord Hastings never lived to see it completed. He was dramatically seized for alleged treason and executed without trial by command of Richard III.
