Maastricht Wijck Rechtstraat

Wijck (from roman vicus meaning quarter), is the name of the part of the city of Maastricht along the east bank of the River Meuse. The construction of Wijck reached its end in the 14th century with the finishing of the circumferential wall. The neogothic St Martinus Church with inside the 14th century statue of the black Christ of Wijck, was constructed in 1856 after a design of Pierre Cuypers to replace the demolished church from the middle ages.
