Millenium Look out tower: Kalapat Mountain is 625 metres high

The Kalapat Mountain is 625 metres high and is topped by the Millenium Look-out Tower which was opened on the 20th of August in 2000 by Dr András Várhelyi. The total cost of the building, 70 million forints, was given by the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economics, and the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage to the Bükk National Park. The structure was made using 150 tons of Siberian lurch tree, and was constructed by Transylvanian carpenters. It has a foundation of 330 cu.m. of concrete. The tree structure is decorated with copper. Experts used 20 tons of iron and steel to reinforce the structure of the tower. There is a 3 metres long flag on the top of the 33 metres high Look-out Tower. Inside, there are 17 storeys used for viewing.
