Monastery of St Peter and St Paul, Heralikon

One of Heraklion’s oldest architectural monuments, the newly-restored Church of Saints Peter and Paul was originally built for Cistercian monks in the 12th century, and later occupied by the Dominican Order, when the island was under Venetian control. After the Ottoman conquest it was converted to a mosque. Between the 14th to the 18th century it was badly damaged several times by earthquakes.
