Ottoman Tekija in Blagaj near Mostar

The tekija(a kind of muslim monastery) on the Buna river in the small town of Blagaj is an important monument of the early Ottoman period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is a spiritual place where dervishes performed rituals and praised the Lord. It was established after the fall of Herzegovina under the Ottoman rule in the 15th century.

The tekija is located beneath huge rocks and next to the source of Buna river. The place is still used for dervish gatherings but it is also a museum. While being there one can definitely feel the spiritual power of this place. It is an amazing piece of nature. A hundred meters along the river one can spot places for canoe enthusiasts. The panorama is taken a few hours before the New Year's eve.
