Safdarjung's Tomb (New Delhi)

Safdarjung's tomb was completed in 1754 for a former viceroy of the Mughal Empire. The main building is located in the center of a large enclosed garden, similar to the construction of Humayun's tomb. In comparison, Safdarjung's tomb is much less crowded and not as well maintained. When I visited, I was shocked to find graffiti on the back wall. It may not be the most impressive site in Delhi, but the peaceful atmosphere makes it feel like a hidden gem.

November 2013.
