Tarsus Museum Tarsus Vr Mersin 2b6
It is in Tarsus District of Mersin. It is established in the complex of the 75th Year Cultural Center of Tarsus, which was built in 1998. The museum has two large halls where ethnographic and archeological pieces are exhibited. Hand woven fabrics, samples of silver, copper and wood crafts, saddlebacks, kitchenware produced by local people residing in and around Tarsus, and pieces from the Yoruk (Turkish Nomads) and Turkmen culture are on display in the Ethnography Hall. Besides, a spectacular “Tarsus House” corner is offered to the taste of visitors. The Archeology Hall downstairs is equipped with archeological findings revealed during excavations performed in Tarsus region and other historical pieces purchased from other sources. Bronze Age Gözlükule pieces, excavation findings from Tarsus Cumhuriyet Square site, clay lamps, marble architectural fragments, glass bracelets and figurine heads revealed in excavations of Donuktaş-Roman Temple, lamps found during St. Paulus Well excavations, findings from the Roman Tomb excavations, glazed ceramics, bronze crosses and powder flasks found in the salvage excavation conducted in Makam-ı Danyal Mosque, coins from the Byzantine Period are among the pieces on display in the section of the museum allocated for excavation findings. The museum is open during working hours all week, except for the first days of religious holidays until noon.
