Along Highway 197 near Crescent City, California is the small Templeman Grove. A short walk within reveals a couple absolutely massive redwood trees in statue. Redwoods are known for their world record height (the highest is in an undisclosed location in the vicinity) but visitors are also awed by their size. The ground cover is that of redwood sorrel (also known as Oregon oxalis), a common Coast Range inhabitant, containing three heart-shaped leaves that fold down in minutes when exposed to sunlight, one of my personal favorites plants.
