Bodie is a suprisingly well-preserved gold rush era ghost town in eastern California. Miners came to Bodie to look for gold and the town grew rapidly in the late 19th century. Life was rough in old Bodie-- at an elevation of more than 8000 feet (2500 meters), winters were harsh with temperatures regularly dropping to 20 degrees below zero farenheit (-30 deg. C) with scorching summers.
Modern Bodie is a well-preserved and managed tourist attraction, visited by crowds of people from all around the world. A unique and beautiful location, Bodie is an excellent stop on any road-trip through the American West.
