The inner courtyard, Aydon Castle, Northumberland

Aydon Castle, also known as Aydon Hall, is a 13th century fortified manor house located in a secluded Northumberland woodland. Owned by a wealthy Suffolk merchant, it was originally undefended but that changed following the outbreak of Anglo-Scottish wars. With the region persistently raided by Scots it suffered numerous attacks which financially ruined its owner.

During the 17th century it served as a farmhouse and was lived in up until 1966.
