Black Crater, Three Sisters Wilderness July1st 2023
USA

This is a view from the top of Black Crater. Black Crater is a 7,500' smallish mountain close to and north and a bit west of the three sisters mountains that are all just a bit over 10,000 ft. The hike to get up here to the summit is 8 miles round trip and about 2,500' vertically. It would be a great hike but for the many many blown down down dead trees over the trail in the first mile and a half. This mountain sits in the middle of a burn from the Milli forest fire in 2017. All the trees around the mount are burned and dead but for a few towards the summit. Actually it makes for a beautiful open landscape of chared and twisted trees and burls. There were a few areas of snow stil close to the top on this July 1st.

The view on this panorama starts facing south at the North Sister with the Middle and South Sisters behind. If you swing around to the North view you will see a sharp peaked mountain that is Mt. Washington. To the right of Mt. Washington is another sharp peak that is Three Fingered Jack. To the right of that is Mt. Jefferson and faintly to the right of that is Mt. Hood. As you look farther to the East you will see a smooth round top mountain. That is Black Butte.

This is a beautifl but somewhat difficult hike to the summit. I do highly recommend it.

More About USA

The United States is one of the most diverse countries on earth, jam packed full of amazing sights from St. Patrick's cathedral in New York to Mount Hollywood California. The Northeast region is where it all started. Thirteen British colonies fought the American Revolution from here and won their independence in the first successful colonial rebellion in history. Take a look at these rolling hills carpeted with foliage along the Hudson river here, north of New York City. The American south is known for its polite people and slow pace of life. Probably they move slowly because it's so hot. Southerners tend not to trust people from "up north" because they talk too fast. Here's a cemetery in Georgia where you can find graves of soldiers from the Civil War.The West Coast is sort of like another country that exists to make the east coast jealous. California is full of nothing but grizzly old miners digging for gold, a few gangster rappers, and then actors. That is to say, the West Coast functions as the imagination of the US, like a weird little brother who teases everybody then gets famous for making freaky art.The central part of the country is flat farmland all the way over to the Rocky Mountains. Up in the northwest corner you can find creative people in places like Portland and Seattle, along with awesome snowboarding and good beer. Text by Steve Smith.
