Braga, Cathedral, Galile
Portugal

Galilé's vault is a remarkable example of the Engenho of the Masters Beds of Gothic Architecture; Their bows wake-up intersecting three stars four-pointed.

Open gallery in Arcaria, served in other times as shelter space, where meetings were held and certain religious ceremonies.

Galilé was built between middle 15th century (beginning of the 16th century) by Archbishop D. Jorge da Costa and, since then, it has not suffered major changes, except for the grids of Arcaria, which were placed there in the 18th century.

These grids were sent by Archbish d.Diogo de Sousa, in the 16th century, to separate the chapel · Sea of Transept and D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles transferred them to Galilé, in the century. Xviii

The exterior decor was completed by Archbishop D. Sousa (Ircios do Serica. XVI) who had put, on Platibanda da Galilé, ediccutes with the sculptures of the first prelates of the Diocese of Braga: (from left to right).

In Romanesque architecture, the portal of the Churches had particular importance in the external set of the building. The portal symbolized the limit between two spaces:

The Exterior - The Profane World

The Interior of the Temple - The Divine World

This symbolic function was achieved through the carefully elaborate tympan decoration and arches archivolts.

The figures and symbols carved in PEA conveyed a "didactic message" that initiated the believer in the ideals of faith preparing him for entry into the divine space.

Of the old Romanesque portico of the century. XII remains only the archivolts, since the eardrum has been treaded in the century. XVI. In your decor we find several types of real and imaginary figures.
