Built shortly before the Afonsinas (Afonso III) inquiries of 1259, on the rubble of another older temple, probably Visigothic, which would have been razed during the Arab occupation.
Its structure is romanic, with three naves, the central one being slightly higher.
The wooden structure cover with an interior cover is from the 19th century. XIX, because previously it would be in a barrel vault accented in slender columns with smooth shaft, joined by perfect arches.
In the reign of King João III, the current Renaissance entrance portals are made, the axial and the lateral.
The main chapel, reinforced by buttresses, is surmounted by a multi-ribbed vault, supported by corbels, and was rebuilt around 1561. The triumphal arch is ogival and lined with a tile panel, alluding to the Assumption of Mary. The walls are made of rough stone, assuming that they have already been covered by some finishing, or covered with tile panels (similar to the Matriz de Barcelos)
