The Greina Plateau (die Greina Ebene, Plaun la Greina) in July 2015. The plateau is about six kilometers long and one kilometer wide. It's a unique Alpine tundra landscape at an elevation of 2'200 meters. It's a protected landscape. It can only be accessed by hiking. The "easiest" way to the Greina Plateau is from the canton Ticino, from Pian Geirett. From there it's a hike of about 6 km and 400 meters difference in altitude. There are 4 hutts around the Greina Plateau to stay overnight. If you start at Pian Geirett, the Capanna Scalletta makes an easy access to the Greina Plateau. You'll sure see alpine ibexes (Capricorn), chamois and lots of marmots. And it's one source of the river Rhine.
