Memorial stone of 3 Danish Border Guards
Denmark

On April 9, 1940 at. 04.15 the German attack began, which in a few hours led to Denmark's occupation. Red signal lights were shot in the air on the German side of the border as a sign that the troops were to begin the advance. At about the same time, German soldiers swept ashore from a troop transport ship that had just moored at Langelinie in Copenhagen, and in a number of other port cities German war ships invaded and landed soldiers. But already a quarter earlier, the German assault on Denmark had demanded its first victims. Three members of the Border Guards Army was assassinated approx at 4 am in the morning, by plainclothes German agents of the Brandenburg Regiment at the viaduct under the railway in Padborg's southern outskirts. The memorial was inaugurated in 1941. they engraved tekst say Danish: Overgendarmerne AS Albertsen JP Birk AA Hansen Skudt af civilklædte personer 9 april 1940 English: Border Guards AS Albertsen JP Birk AA Hansen Shot by civilian people April 9, 1940 The danish authorities didn't want to provocate the nazis, so they filled out the engraved tekst : Shot by civilian people April 9, 1940 so you couldn't see the text. https://www.graenseforeningen.dk/node/6578
