The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is considered the most beautiful "covered street" in Italy. Finished in 1878, few years after the birth of the Italian state, it has a cross plant with a dome in the center and, of the four arms, one is connected to the Duomo Square and the opposite one to La Scala Concert Hall. During Xmas time many thousand lights give an extraordinary effect particularly on the dome: in the top center the emblem of Milan.
Italy’s and perhaps the world’s capital of fashion and design, Milano is home to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, which is possibly the world’s oldest shopping mall. The city is currently undergoing an architectural renaissance, which will culminate in a new skyline for the Expo 2015, which will be hosted in Milano. Visitors can take advantage of an extensive public transportation system, which includes metro, buses, trolleys and trams.
