Palmela Church of Santiago Nave
Portugal

Located inside the primitive fence of the Castle of Palmela, in the parish of Palmela, the Church of Santiago de Palmela was promoted in 1443 and ended in 1482 with the pretext of transferring the order of Santiago to the village of Palmela in the 15th century. A building of great geometrical monumentality, it is part of the last phase of the late Gothic period, due to its formal simplicity. Its interior features three naves as well as traces of 18th-century tile decoration. XVII and XVIII. Its interior is so simple that the church with 3 naves with all vaults at the same height has no markings of any kind, neither on the toral arches nor on the dividing arches that are cleaned from the apex to the base. Even the profile of the arches has a simplicity not of its time, even surpassing that of Cha architecture, being made of oblique chamfers modeling. Under a Manueline arcosolium is found the tomb chest of Jorge de Lancastre, last master of the Order of Santiago and natural son of King João II. The simplicity of this church has no parallel in the 15th century and is therefore part of a set of unique buildings that have been built since the 14th century, which could be described as experiences of a late-Dogothic that goes culminate in a regionalized tardogótico that is Manuelino.
