An view of the "hunting park" entrance at Villa Lante, a large estate where two different Cardinals commisioned homes and an extensive garden during the late 1500s. The building in the photo is the Gambara house. Michel de Montaigne visited Villa Lante during his Italian journey in the 1580s and noted, "it seems not only to equal but to surpass both Pratolino and Tivoli... it has much more art, beauty, and grace... certainly, if I know anything about it, this place easily takes the prize for the use and service of water."
