Apartment buildings in Salzgitter, Germany typically run in long continuous lines, without breaks. This is why several such buildings have tunnels in them, with paths leading between buildings, so pedestrians can get places more easily. This particular scene is along one such shortcut that I would regularly take in order to get from my language school to the bus stop.
