Sokograd medieval fortress
Serbia

From resorts to the old fortress Lepterija Soko-town or cave (now a restaurant) comes to light hiking for only about fifteen minutes.


In the canyon of the river Moravice, about 2 miles south of Sokobanja, on a steep and almost inaccessible hill are the remains of medieval fortifications. The fort was irregular basis, larger and probably was built on the foundations of ancient buildings. It consists of Lower and Upper Town. The lower town was largely destroyed, but parts of walls, square towers and the main gate, which is the best preserved. Gornji grad - the citadel on a rocky ridge which is separated from the Lower City. In the Upper City is the highest quadrangular tower with loopholes. Around it is a deeper ditch. There are two rectangular towers, slightly lower, longer connected by a wall that had openings for guns. The entrance to the upper town was through the lower tower. And what if the tank water, arched stone and cut into the rock. In it were found ceramic pipes for rain water supply. The fort was built during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries to the beginning of the fifteenth century, namely 1412, was devastated and destroyed by the outlaw Musa. There are data that it already follows, 1413th held by the Turks. Archaeological excavations were conducted from 1980 to 1982. year.

Most tourists do not miss a visit Sokograd. There are no reliable data on its origin ... it is certain that it is a medieval fortress on the findings drawn from the fourth to the seventh century. It is mentioned in the biography of Despot Stefan Lazarevic, and destroyed during the Turkish struggle for the throne led rebels against the Sultan Musa Bey Hanuz 1413th Musa, also known as Musa Kesedzija, is being mentioned as the main culprit for the destruction of the Church of St. Petka near the picnic Lepterija.

There are many places for tourists, even on the road to Sokograd, hikers can find homes where they can catch fire grills and dine at tables arranged in the woods enjoying the water and the thick shade of trees and rocks.

Disadvantages LEPTERIJA and Sokograd are under medium term, of not electrified, so this race and of itself may not be illuminated for night walks, you need more boards with signs reading, and a suspension bridge that would make a circular route to Sokograd , and provide a unique view of the canyon around him, which would be another tourist attraction.
