The remains of the elaborately decorated west doorway at the entrance to the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey. The Cistercian house translates from Latin as the Vale of Flowers.
It flourished as a religious and cultural centre during the 13th and 14th centuries until, like all other abbeys and monasteries in Britain, it fell victim to Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the 1540s.
